mercruiser 260 dies when shifting from reverse to neutral. any ideas. have done a little research and sounds like maybe a lower shift cable deal maybe but i wondered if anyone has had same problems and had an easy fix.

Bought a 1982 Sea Ray last year with a merc 260. Trim worked fine for a week and then i stopped working right. Only raises while moving slow and leaks down pretty quick. Wont raise at all while driving fast. Any ideas?? New boat owner so i know nothing.
