Brandon, be sure to ck prices, alot of the new kits are cheaper than the orginal cables and some of the cables are NLA--Bob

Teleflexmarine.com is a good place to start, but Bob is right, the complete kit is usually cheaper than the replacement cable. And you will have a new helm.

DHP

Re: need new sterring cable

Teleflex says, measure the distance from the center line of the steering wheel, to the gunwale, to the transom,to the center line of the boat, subtract 4" for each corner or a total of 8" for the 2 corners. take this measurement and if the cable is mounted on the engine tilt tube add 6" if it's mounted to the splash well or a ransom support subtract 6" and round of to the next whole foot, that is the lengh of the cable you need---Bob

brandon,
Just a heads up, if the steering cable is mounted through the engine tilt tube, I would suggest that you thoroughly clean out the tube before installing the new cable. I just cleaned mine on my 1995 Merc 115 and there was a fair amount of crud in there.
Al
