Too many variables to take into consideration. Condition of motor, prop, boat weight and condition, hull configuration, motor setup on boat, etc etc etc. I have a 40hp on a 14ft F/G whaler style boat and I run about 58KMH with a 13" pitch prop and about 68KMH with a 15" pitch prop.

How fast is km/h ? sounds like a lot of motor for a 14 ft. Be careful fred

km/h?
Divide by eight and multiply by five. Gives you mph.

So Rod's 68 km/h is 42 mph. That's quick for a forty horse on a fourteen footer.

Yep, thats quick alright and I wasn't even turning max RPM's. Too fast for me, thats why I changed out to a 13" pitch prop. Now I feel that I am in control of the boat and not vis-versa and my WOT is now exactly 5500rpm. Its also awsome for tubing and waterskiing. Able to yank my oldest son @ 155 Ib's out of the water with ease.

heman37, your prop should have numbers stamped on the side of it or on the rear of the hub. Those numbers will include a reference to the pitch. An example would be 48-16840-A40R-15P. This would be an aluminum 'A' right hand rotation 'R' with a 15" pitch 'P'. The other numbers are meaningless from an interpretation point of view. I'd say your speed is just about right for that boat/motor combo.

I have a 40 HP Tohatsu on a 15" fibreglass half Cabin boat and I seem to get about 25Mph with three guys onboard and fishing gear.

45/1.62 = 27.8 mph. Sounds just right to me.

Speed should be used with good judment.Keep in mind a narrow pasage not to fast for you tear up the shore line and breeding ground for little guys that live there. We need to think a little more on what that wave does !

Michael

I get 30mph with 2 people and gear, 32 with 1. 14' alum starcraft and 40hp Nissan. I'd think you are in the 25-30mph range.

Re: 35 hp speed on 14'

Herman,

With a fresh 40hp on my 14.5 ft fiberglass runabout I run 30 mph (48k)with no load, 27/28 mph (43kph) loaded. With about 15% more hp, I am only running 3kph faster. Makes me think your rig is more effecient or lighter weight. Is a cadorette boat rather spartan like a row boat or heavier like runabout?

I'd expect a Cadorette to be heavier than your MFG.

My 14.5ft Sunray goes 35mph with a 60HP on it (solo).

I have a 40 on my 14footer - the boat is rated for up to 60.

The 40 will BARELY pull an adult water skier in the turn, kneeboard is fine, fishing fine, water tubing is fine.

2-3 adults if fine,

tomatolord
