merc 1150 no reverse

I have an old merc 1150, reverse will not engage completely. I have adjusted cable and still get clicking and partial engagement.is there a simple<br />(HAHA) fix for this or should I get a new motor? this motor is mounted on a BIG OLD tracker party hut. I also have problems with the thing dying between gears if I don't throttle heavy when i engage.wich of cours is not a problem now that reverse is gone. anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.

G'day. Sounds like the motor is getting old. The shift problem may be worn dog clutch or worn shift shaft. Dropping revs when put into gear, could be one of many problems. Start with a compression test.
