I have seen Chrysler sail boats but never a outboard. Are they any good. I am looking at a 18' open bow with a " hydro-vee" hull (a cross between a V hull and a tri-hull" any info?<br />Thanks

I had a '77 231 Courier Hydro-Vee 17' with a Chrysler 120h O/B on her. Loved her too death. She had power to kick you know what but she was too big for me to handle alone. I wanted another boat and I wouldn't sell the "Titanic II" until I found another Chrysler. Working with a buddy of mine I was buying his little Escort, we turned down his street to go look at his car and there she was, another Chrysler! I knew it a block away. I bought 'em both! It's a '79 Sport Satellite with a Chrysler 75h. His Dad was selling it, he told me make an offer. I jokingly told him $300 and he said sold. It was a pass-down from a family member, he had bought a new fishing boat & was selling his house, he just wanted to get it out of his yard. I took it to town to have her checked out, put about $200 into the motor and she scoots just as good as my 120h did. I'm replacing the seats and the carpet, clean her up a bit and re-doing the rollers on the trailer. For $500 going in I haven't even payed for the value of the trailer yet. I got lucky! I like the tri-hull style, more boat in the water. Everybody has their likes. I like Chryslers. It'd be nice though if I could just figure out a way to drag along a gas station.................

Lots of old Chrysler boats still around. Must have been built fairly well.

The only real downside to a Chrysler motor is parts availability. The few boats I've deal with by Chrysler were very well built. I have two smaller Chrysler motors, both are in great shape and run just fine.
Chrysler outboards were originally West Bend outboards, which Chrysler bought out in the early 60's, then around 1984, Chrysler sold their outboard line to US Marine and the name was then changed to Force, and around the early 90's the Force brand was bought by Mercury and was later dropped around 1999.
