Thats correct and it is definatly better on gas. I really like the v4 it comes out of the hole about the same but it seems better in the midrange than the crossflow. I am still about 400 rpm shy of 6000 wot so a little tuning and she might run closer to the crossflow.

We dont pay too much attention to the low end timing. We just set it at whatever makes the motor run the best on a given set up. On my V6 looper if I have the jackplate all the way down (lots of backpressure) it will idle real low. Maybe too low. But if I run the plate up it idles almost too high (less backpressure). Your initial timing will depend on backpressure on your particular set up but it wont be too far from the book spec on that V4.

As for the idle screws, I've seen some be as much as 9 turns out before the motor idled OK. 5-7 is not unusual.

Ok that sounds good as I played with them yesturday and it seems to be good at about 5 1/2 turns. I adjusted them until it stalls on throttle up in gear then turned them in until there is no stumble and it is really better. It only is a little rough at 950 rpm but idles great and runs better above that
