A few parts to my question(s)

.I am replacing my timing base which I broke. It is part # 583289 under which is 1(8or B)NTW1. I purchased another timing base on ebay. Same part #(583289). The number under it is 31HPTW1.What does the second set of #'s mean? Are they just manufacturing #'s or are they significant otherwise?

The timing base to come out of my engine, the first one mentioned, has five wires coming out and going to a 5 prong plug as does the other 1 I purchased. The difference is that although both have a yellow, pink, blue, green and purple wires they are not in the same order coming out of the timing base. At the 5 prong connecter they are in the same order. Will this be an issue?

Your help is always appreciated.

The OMC parts catalog lists the 1988 v4 timer base as part # 583379, so not sure what you are working with.

Model # E110 TLCCA , Serial # R 1814152.

I was told that this part is interchangeable by a mechanic.I questioned this but. I checked the Iboats parts list and also found the other parts # 583379 but sure enough when I took it apart it was 583289.

583289 suppercedes to 583379.

The pins in the plugs can be pushed out and rearranged to match your plug. If you look on the plugs, the holes are labled A, B, C,..etc.

Blue goes to A.
Purple to B.
Green to C.
Red to D.
White to E.

Colors fade and may appear different than the book says.

Be careful when pushing out the pins. They can smash easily. I use a little dielectric lube on the pins so they slide into the plug easier.

There is a retaining ring which fits in a slot at the base of the timer base. Clean the slot and ring real good and use a good lube such as lithium grease to lube it with. Make sure the base rotates freely after it is installed. And use a dab of screw lock on the retaining clip screws.

OK, Any tips on the flywheel. I do not have a torque wrench. I have an impact wrench and some long pipe to lengthen my ratchets.

Having a brain fart right now w2.....my engine is basically the same as yours and I cannot remember what the torque for the flywheel is......think it's 100 > 105ft lb. Go to AutoZone and get a torque wrench....you can borrow one for a small deposit which is returned when you bring the tool back. Don't use cheaters on your rachets or anything like that. Do it right the first time.

OBJ, Any suggestion on how to hold the fly wheel inplace as I tighten the nut. The manual says 100 ft lbs.Don't worry about the brain farts, I should have thought of Auto Zone .

Again many Thanks for your replies

Maybe they got a flywheel holder there to w2. Or at least a strap wrench. Flywheel holder is better but I have held them with a strap wrench.
