Hi!
My motor runs only on 3 cylinders one is lost.
Top starboard does not work.
THe carbs are cleaned.
I have checked compression. They are all between 105-115 psi. There are a spark on all 4 new spark plugs.
The cylinder gets gas. I have switched ignition coils between the running and not running cylinders. I have switched power packs (CD's) and still the same cylinder does not work.
I removed the flywheel and found a CRACK and some melting in the plastic of the stator.
CAN this be the problem? I checked the resistance between brown and brown/grey cables from the stator to 570 ohms on both pair.
There was a short circuit (0 ohms) between the yellow and yellow/grey from the stator.
What are these yellow cables used to?

Anyone have any idea how to check the stator? or what can the fault be? and how can I find out what is wrong?

Just to check. Should each ignition coil be connected to the closest sparc plug?
/Harry

I forgot to say that I have switched and checked the spark plug wires. Still the same result.
No change of motor running when i remove the spark plug wire from the starboard top cylinder.
/Harry

Does that cylinders spark plug look real clean after running?

If so, you have popped a head gasket. Not uncommon on that set up.

I would also recommend you swap sparkplugs and see if it follows the plug.
Sparkplugs fire real easy with no resistance and you say you have fire, gas and compression.....
thats all ya need, just make sure it isn't a 3 dollar plug giving you these symptoms.

The spark plug is not cleaned. It is dark of gas and oil.
/Harry

HI!

I just want to tell you what the problem was.
There was a missing screw at the inlet manifold.
First,I did not know what it was used to. But I found out, it holds the reed valve inside the inlet. When I took it apart I saw that the "reed leaf" had fallen apart. When I put it all together the motor runs again.

I'm happy again!
/Harry

Thanks for the update, Harry. I, like I'm sure many others do (except for Dhadley, Kenny, DJ, and others who already know it all ;) :D ), make mental notes of these sorts of issues. It even surprises me how often something will come up on the water, and I'll remember what somebody said or suggested on here only to find that it worked. Many a time I've not been stranded because of some arbitrary thread I'd read.

Thanks all!

Thanks Harry. Great find!!! Congrat's!

Only Dhadley, "knows it all". I'm a hack with an obsessive interest.
