1999-2000 model motor will not shift into or out of gear when left outdoors in temp. below 30 degrees overnight. Does not have water in lower unit. P roblem can be solved by heating lower unit with blow dryer for about 10 minutes.

Might want to try synthetic lower lube and see what happens, but really, it should still shift.

Rick is right. Should still shift. Maybe some water laying around the rubber grommet that the shift rod goes through in the midsection, freezing up around the shift rod.
