I have acquired a 135 evinrude, I think manufactured mid to late 70's. The engine starts up and runs no problem but I can only see a bit of steam and a spit of water comming from the outlet below the top cover. Im wondering if there is a water pump problem or does the garden hose not dispence enough water? I note the the "ear muffs" can only cover a prortion of the various intakes and the water flows out the rest quickly, possible not enough water available for the pump to operate under? I have not had a chance to put it in the water, any ideas, cheers!

Re: Water pump

Using muffs is not a good way to find out if the waterpump is in good shape. The best way is to have it in the lake.

Unless the engine is getting hot enough you may not see a lot of water comming out those holes. The T-Stats have to open to send the water out the holes.

TMD
