I was looking to get a manual for my Mercruiser. On Mercury Marines web site it has listed INBOARD SERVICE MANUAL and ENGINE SERVICE MANUAL. Whats the difference? I have the sterdrive manual and the owners manual.

You need to find one that has your motor in it. The one that has your drive doesn't always mean that it has your motor. Like you said you already have the stern drive manual now all you need is a manual for the motor. I would think the inboard manual has information about the transmission, drive shafts, V gear boxes and stuff like that. Totally useless to a outdrive guy like the outdrive stuff is to a inboarder. If you buy a different manual just for your motor try to get one that has outdrives in it. It may not have your drive but it will have your motor going to a drive and most times they will be t like your system just a different model drive.

When you order the manual straight from the Mercruy Marine web site you need to put in,Engine Serial number,Model number, Horsepower, Sterndrive serial number (if applicable). This will assure you that the correct manual for you model will be shipped. It worked with the sterdrive manual and the owners manual so far. I was thinking the Engine service manual would be the one to go with.

Well, I had entered all the serial numbers, etc.
What I ended up getting was a $35 manual for the Alpha drive only, updated 2001.
There have been changes up through 2004, which this 2001 manual did not have. (Duh)

Now, I would have to kick in another $35 for the engine manual. (I'll go with Seloc for that.)

I guess since mine is a 1999 I didn't have that problem.
