Johnson 115 Fuel Pump Not Discharging

1982 Johnson 115 getting fuel to fuel pump but not discharging. Replaced fuel pump and still have same problem. If I bypass the fuel pump the motor runs strong untill fuel in line is burned. I don't know much about the pulse port as far as checking it so any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to say this, but check for sufficient compression. No (or low) compression, and your fuel pump won't operate.

I know nothing about your motor but maybe the pulse port is simply plugged or if there is a hose involved maybe it is gunked up.<br />If you squeeze the primer bulb will the motor run?

Thanks for the advice guys, I checked the compression and it was 125-135 in all cylinders, is that enough to make the fuel pump work correctly? I also removed the fuel pump and ran my fuel intake straight to the fuel tree. As long as there was fuel in the line the motor ran like a champ. The pulse port was not clogged and pushing and pulling. If i held my finger over the port it would run around 1500 rpm. When I removed my finger it would jump up to 1800 rpm. Is that enogh of a difference to make the pump work? I'm thinking I may have just got a faulty pump straight out of the box. I'm going to exchange it tommorow for another one and try it, I'll keep you posted. Meantime any additional advice is always helpful.

The new fuel pump being faulty would be my next guess. At this point, if I had rebuilt it, I would think I had screwed up. Let us know the outcome.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I took back the fuel pump and tried to exchange it but dealer said he could not do that. He said he would have to send it to OMC and have them test it. That will take 3-10 days but what choice do I have right?
