Re: what year is your current setup?

I have not had to be towed in yet. As a matter of fact I've never been towed in :D . I mainly use my 16.5 foot Lund with 75HP (2002). Previous 14'alumacraft 8 Johnson (2000) and 14 grumman 6 Evinrude (1984). Once I had to use the electric motor to get in but I made it (barely). I've owned all of these boats/motors since new.

1978 Crestliner with its original Johnson 150. Always have my trolling motor to get back with, but haven't needed it yet (knock on wood).

I also still carry the oars that I needed a few times with my old boat. Old habit, I suppose

Re: what year is your current setup?

I am currently running a '97 Sanger with a '97 Merc 200 EFI on a '97 V/M tandem axle trailer. I just sold my old rig, which was a 1975 16' Forester 1600, with a '91 Evinrude 120, on a '91 Balko single axle trailer. I have never been towed with either rig, although I have towed others with the Forester. I have only had the Sanger about 11 months now, and have towed nothing other than skiers with it!

HOTROD – I have one of those … 115 Johnson Seahorse, 1975!!! Can’t tell from your pic but mine is still white, kind of. Needed to replace the cover seal so I just tossed the whole cover when I found an 85 Seahorse cover in the dumpster. The 85 fits and still had a good seal. I love dumpster diving… :)

Fwiw, I have been told it is the worst year for john/even motors. Something about the rings being high on the pistons, can catching on the cylinder lip and breaking. Only year they did that. Wouldn’t know, only had it since ’94 and never been in there, the critter just keeps running.

1976 Glastron V-195 powered by a Ford 302/Mercruiser #1. Haven't been towed in, but have towed a few folks. Bought with locked up engine 3 years ago.

Also fish out of a 1976 Glastron T-166 powered by a 1976 Johnson 85hp crossflow V4. Same story, haven't been towed in yet, but she did drop a power pack on the lake year before last. Was able to get home on 2 cylinders with the other two only firing occasionally.

Re: what year is your current setup?

1970 Silverline Comoro with 1969 Merc 1250, have never been towed, but I towed a brand new bass boat this year. Odds are, a lot of those new boats being towed are probably out of gas or some other simple thing that was overlooked. You have to also factor in that a lot of people will go buy a new boat, knowing very little about boats, and just take it out without looking it over. I have always thought it is a good idea to check everything in a new boat, you just never know if you boat was being assemble by a guy who was thinking about his girlfriend and missed a connection or something. It happens, they are only human...

1983 ebbtide dynatrack with 1988 johnson 150 and 1975 forester tri-hull with 1975 evinrude 70, both have been great boats, i was about 1/4 mile from shore when the 150 seized up not long after buying it.

1973 Larson XL-5, with a 1963 Merc 1000. Hope to have her back in the water this coming weekend. I had to crack into the lower unit after a fateful maiden voyage.
