97 Johnson 130 Tilt banging when going up and down

Hello,
Has anyone ever had the issue of the tilt banging at certain intervals going up and down. Seems to tilt ok, can go all the way up and down but pretty bad sound at times. Seems to be when transom bracket is tilting. Reservoir is full. Any ideas? Thank you

Appears to be binding, has it been greased properly? Tilt tube nut, check it's torque value.

Gee, if grease doesn't fix it, the second choice would be the PTT motor slipping while driving the pump. I do not know if that is possible on your motor, however.

Mercury PTTs often have an adaptor from motor to pump. They could strip out.

Has a new steering cable and tube was greased. The noise is coming from the bottom pin where the bracket on the transom rotates where the pump is.

The PTT system needs to pivot a bit on the upper and lower pins. Maybe it is binding on them?

I would pull that pin and clean/lube it.

Salt water motor.

Torquing the tube nut solved my noise on my E-tec. Noise was slightly different.

Heat and wax is your friend.
