I would find out what it cost to rebuild it locally.
Could even find some vortec heads and have them installed while your at it

I was thinking about going that route, to upgrade to that I would just need to change the manifolds? I would just need to know what all I would need to purchase to make the vortec work, because the boat may not be worth putting all that money into

Your old manifolds will work with vortec or non-vortec, no issues

The heads are what make a motor vortec. Newer blocks can have some added advantages but not enough that would change to get a newer block

If you find a good truck motor with low mileage that would be best, but even a higher mileage motor (not more than 100K) could still be ok if compression test out

I'm not finding anything local with under 150k. There's some across the country I requested quotes on , under 100k miles, only a few that don't want more than reman
Also been searching a bunch of rebuilders for a reman. Alot of them had poor reviews, but a company called "powertrain products" . Leaning towards reman. So shopping that while I await quotes on yard engines.

I’d look into what it would cost to have it rebuilt locally. While you’re at it, it might be worth considering finding some Vortec heads and having them installed as part of the rebuild. It could be a good opportunity to upgrade things while everything is apart.

Yeah I've thought about that, but I decided to go ahead with a repower rather than buy a new boat for cost reasons, the boat is not worth that much money. So I don't want to put a lot of money into it. Upgrading to a vortec might be feasible and probably my easiest upgrade, because it would still bolt up to my stringers, And all of my Marine parts from my old engine would bolt up the same way right? If I were to put a bigger motor in it, wouldn't that change everything, mounting location and alignment? Trying to make it as simple and cost efficient as possible.

I she was doomed, I was just going to give the boat away when I saw what it cost for marinas to put a new engine in, because the boat is not worth that much money, but if I put a reman in and be under $3,000 then I'll be back on the water with ole blue before the summer ends 🤘🏼
