Wishful thinking! I certainly hope not.
Edit: unless coupler bolt as mentioned elsewhere... For some reason I was/am thinking that the coupler bolt was sae even on the metric block.
I do believe there's an inspection port on the flywheel cover though.

Good news - all three coupler bolts are still in.
Better news! Found it! It was the 3rd bolt holding the power steering pump to the bracket.

WHEW!

As usually, thanks for your assistance!
Pleased you found it , that sort of thing can nag at you bad enough to ruin time on the water🙂

10-40001188SCREW, (M10 x 20) (3 required per assembly)

Mercury-Mercruiser 10-40001188 SCREW, (M10 x 20), Pump Mounting Brace has been superseded to a new part number 10-40001189 SCREW (M10 x 20).

Just for a different matchup visual, Item number 6, https://www.marineengine.com/parts/...10044-thru-0m614999/power-steering-components

Once in a while I explore the nether regions of my boat's bilge with the inspection camera and a magnetic pick up tool. I was surprised that I didn't find more stuff than I did! No tools and just a few washers and wingnuts.

Your boat has apparently been running too well.

I've found enough hardware in my bilge over the years to dress a whole other motor. And enough tools to make it happen.
Ha ha I guess you wouldnt need to be buying many fishing sinkers....just have a rummage round in your bilge for something 😁😁

Hey all,
I’ve got a 2000 Mercruiser repower engine with alpha one gen II drive.

i recently pulled engine, changed oil seals, and remounted drive.
She’s running better than ever!

however, today I found this bolt in the starboard aft area of the bilge. and i cannot figure out where it belongs. I thought it was the rear coupling cover but cannot see any missing.
any hints?

thanks!

That is a metric bolt Given the 9.8 marking On. 4.3 the 090M casting used m10 bolts for the starter, flywheel cover, and side motor mount holes. Based on the short length I would be thinking the side motor mount holes.
amazingly the rest of the bolt holes on the metric blocks are SAE …
