Hi all,

I've got a Kohler 5e I took the cylinder heads off and filled the crankcase with diesel. There was clear water intrusion into the cylinder heads/crankcase. The cylinder heads and intake of the gen has clear water intrusion through it. Does anyone know how it could have gotten in there and what all I need to check to fix the issue?

I bought this boat as a project so I have no idea on the history. I never tried starting the generator. I checked with a camera for signs of corrosion and luckily there was very minimal. The cylinders luckily are also corrosion free.

The wet muffler was almost full of water as well. The set up wasn't altered or changed from factory as the boat sat a very long time.

It's a good bet that someone hooked up a pressurized water source to the cooling intake. In normal operations the cooling water from the seacock is pulled into the running engine where it circulates through the block and exits downstream of the exhaust manifold. When you pressurize the water intake with the engine off, the water flows backward and fills the exhaust manifold and into any cylinder with an open exhaust valve.

Yeah, that's what I read online on several forums. Just not sure how that would have happened if everything was hooked up and looked untouched? All the parts of the boat looked like they sat for years.

I'm just not sure how a decent bit of oil got inside, it was mostly oil and less water. The whole crankcase for certain had water mixed in with oil but I flushed and filled with diesel several times.
