setting ign timing

Installing 1998 5.7 SBC from c1500 pick up into my 1993 Larson. I have a few questions
1- How do I set ign timing with composite timing cover
2- what is lifter preload (has roller cam) .5 turn .75turn ect from 0 lash
3- removed core plug to install brass, old plug was brass.Is this normal?

You still have to change head gaskets

Which marine ignition are you using? You can use the original Mercruiser dizzy from your 93. Should be a small cast timing tab that corresponds to TDC. Use timing tape

The 1996 and later heads should be non-adjustable if stock. So you just tighten the rockers to 27Nm (about 20 ft-lb)

on the core plugs yes in later years some truck engines cam with brass or stainless core plugs. Makes sense as marine a truck motors were made on the same line.
