So sorry, but I am unable to find a 5.0 GL-F Engine Drain Petcock Part 22848 online.

I've tried all my tricks, even ChatGPT.

Any links or words of wisdom are much appreciated. I'm no mechanic, but I've never had an issue screwing a plug in.

I can get them started, but when I try to tighten by hand a turn or two, they fall out.
Thank you...bracing for some elbowing. LOL

Are you sure about the part number?

Per the parts breakdown at https://www.volvopentastore.com the block drain is 3854494, https://www.volvopentastore.com/Cylinder-Block-And-Flywheel-Housing/dm/store_id.366--view_id.790335

Yes, the petcock part number is printed on page 99 of the owners manual in the winterization procedures.

Thank you. This helps!

I see why there is confusion. Figure 9 shows the two components. I was looking for just the plug portion, 9/16 hex. I should be able to take it from here.

Ayuh,.... That's a 1/4" brass pipe plug in the picture, just like from a hardware store, for a buck or 2,....

Yes! Took it to a boat mechanic. Got one at Napa
or the mercruiser type with the blue plugs https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71bu3bAYRBL._AC_UY327_FMwebp_QL65_.jpg

And being a tapered thread DO NOT overtighten them
thank you. manual says 22 lbs. there is no way I can get my torque wrench in there. someone else posted hand tight, then quarter turn.

My calibrated elbow goes click.....

Seriously, 22 ft-lbs is how much you can apply with your index finger on a 10" wrench

I'm really embarrassed but since I started this thread I'll post my stupid error. My exhaust manifold plugs were leaking. I couldn't figure out why. I swapped the plug with the manifold plug that has a hole in it and that solved my issues. I swear I tried swapping them before but gave up too easy.

You guys really are awesome! Thank you all!

I grabbed a screenshot to help explain. The left brass part is a plug. That fits into the exhaust manifold. The piece on the right has a hole, but when it's screwed into the block enough, water stops pouring out. I had them reversed. So the plug would never seat properly and the other would allow a good amount of water to pour out.
I swapped them on a hunch and that resolved the issues immediately.
