spybot, I know you have posted concerning this motor several times in the past, and told us what year it is. But it sure would help if you would remind us what year or model when posting an new question so we don't have to hunt through all the old posts to find that info.

Along that line, I did not hunt through the old posts, but grabbed a manual at random for a 115. Piston to cylinder clearance is 0.0055 max, 0.004 min., at least on this one. Info is in chapter two.

You also need to be aware of the location of measuring for this clearance.------Even a new piston is not the same diameter in all areas.

Sorry, I do not have a 1979 manual. Another one that I just grabbed at random does not give the clearance directly, just bore size min-max and piston size min-max and roundness. Pistons are measured near the bottom of the skirt.

Its in for a hone but i only have 3 new wisecos and very good condition used OMC
I cant afford to buy another new wiseco hence the question was from the machine shop. The wiseco in spec (my inch measurements calulations maybe Well OFF i was tought meteric) the wiseco are 0.006 the OMC is 10th more.
He is worried about piston slap ???????

Wisco claims if the bore is the correct size, and the proper piston is chosen, the clearances will be fine
From the Wisco webpage

Wiseco Powersports pistons are designed for optimal piston to wall clearance for the specific bore size of your engine. For example, your 125cc dirt bike engine is 54mm bore, the Wiseco piston is designed just for that bore size, and does not require any specific adjustments to fit properly.
Some applications, such as higher stressed race engines (or nitrous injected), forced induction engines (supercharged or turbos), do require additional piston to wall clearance than Wiseco has designed into the part. These are special applications that are normally built at high performance engine shops. These builders are familiar with the needs of these engines, and can help establish the needed engine set up parameters including piston to wall clearance. As a general rule, any high stress engines that include nitrous, turbo or supercharging, up to high pressure blowers require an additional .001 to .003" clearance.

Outboard engines are very unique, in that the cooling system uses cold water from the lake or ocean. Because of this, the engine cylinder runs very cool as compared to many other engine types, and the piston does require more clearance to operate properly. Your Wiseco piston does have this additional clearance built into the design, and it is always best to follow the proper break in process. This is an extended process of heat cycling of the engine, and will ensure an extended piston life when followed. Refer to your OEM service manual for the proper break in for your engine, or you can also refer to our Marine catalog for general guidelines. Unquote

Well first you never order parts till machine work is done. The stock bore is 3.500 and wear limit is 3.504, if it mikes out over 3.504 it needs bored. If it is nearly at wear limit the Seizco's will work fine as they need a tad more clearance. Make sure cooling system is totally rebuilt and that engine is taken thru several heat cycles to harden pistons as they are soft. This will take several day and on trailer loading as you cannot break a motor in on muffs.
