Using different carb? 1997 Mercury Force 50hp

I have a 1997 Mercury Force 50hp that has a Tillotson TC-134a (830131). Unfortunately the previous owner stripped out the threads for the fuel intake elbow. I can't find a new/used carb of the same nomenclature. It seems there are other models such as TC-130a and 135a that look the same and I assume have the same dimensions for hooking up.

Will using a different carburetor than the original model work just fine?

I would ask Tillotson what the differences are. If it is jet size you can use your old jets and parts from the old carb.

I just contacted their US distributor and was told they don't show any carbs that can be used instead. I cannot find a used or new one anywhere online, so I guess I need to look for a new motor. It may be too much of a gamble trying a different carb.

Hey bud, sorry for ruining your day by doing so. I was not aware the whole forum checks the mercury section for a general question; which is why it was also asked in a general section.
