I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong area.
I recently picked up a 1985 Starcraft CSS 161 with a Mercruiser 140 in it. I am not new to working on engines or some good old hard work however I come from a motocross/snowmobile background so this type of motor is a bit new for me.
The Motor SN is A464357 and the outdrive is SN: A503049.
Here are the issues that I am having, The motor starts and runs when cold however it has a rather High Idle and then once it warms up it dies. When I look in the carb it was dumping fuel into the motor. I pulled the spark plugs got the fuel out and when I replaced the plugs she fired right back up. She runs if I keep on the throttle but as soon as I get where ever I am going and back off the throttle it will die if I dont throw it into neutral and keep the RPM's higher. I think this is a carb issue however I am not sure. I have done the basics, changed oil, filters, new battery, replaced plugs and the coil. Could this be a timing issue? Last but certainly not least, The prop has a few chips out of it. They are not huge however I am hesitant to continue to use it without the knowledge of if it is impacting internal components.
Again, I apologize for the lack of knowledge. Any tips and help for a new boater would be greatly appreciated.
