Can I run a 2776954 instead of a 14096620?

My head (#14096620) is cracked and the only replacement I found is a quicksilver. However there are some rebuilt 2776954 heads all over ebay. The exhaust ports only look a tie bit bigger on the 2776954 can I run this head without problem? Will the head gasket be the same?

Ayuh,.... Any head from any 2.5l, or 3.0l motor will bolt on, 'n run,...

There were changes in port sizes, but the manifolds still interchange without issues,.....

remember that is a GM part number. find a GM industrial motor dealer (not the automotive ones, however a GM industrial motor dealer)

the 3.0 liter motor is a GM instustrial motor that is also sold to Volvo and Mercruiser to marinize for boat builders to put in boats.

FWIW, I would find a complete whole motor. the chances that its just the head that is cracked is slim.

FYI if you google 14096620, you get a few hundred listings of the head for sale from many vendors, including ebay.

I did...If you click on any of those links you will find that they are all sold and old listings. If you call any of the vendors you will find they are sold out, Mercruiser/GM actually stopped making that head. The only one is Quicksilver for $650. I did not want to just run the other head as yes I am sure it will run but its not going to flow near as good. Luckily I found one from a local machine shop ready to go for $250. Also no it was only the head, I took the motor out disassembled the block and had it magnafluxed and pressure tested. no reason to spend $2600 on a rebuilt motor when I can fully rebuild mine for $800 including the head..

Next boat will definitely be at least a 4.3 though, many more parts. Good thing is I bought this boat for $2500 in perfect shape minus the water in the oil! should at least triple my money!

10140499 replaces 2778864, 2777770 and 14096620

quick silver is the aftermarket division of mercuiser. they buy the head from GM. they don't make it, GM does, not Mercruiser and definately not quicksilver. GM sells this head for about $375. Mercruiser / Quick Silver sells it for about $650, the industrial will-fit parts market has it for $560 (http://www.gcironparts.com/PartSearch.asp?search=GM-10140599)

here is a listing of GM industrial engine dealers https://www.google.com/search?q=gm+industrial+engine+dealers&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

if you would have googled 14096620 you would have found the supercession information as well as the following iboats thread http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...es/625062-help-on-a-mercruiser-181-cid-140-hp

and yes, the 3.0 is pretty much a turd that costs more to fix than a 5.7 liter V8

I did find the 10140499 but if you actually look at it it is not going to match up with the exhaust manifold 100% looks more to be about 50%. There are numerous threads on this. why would I want to loose that much power? Makes more sense to go with the exact head I have for $250 that is less than an hour from my house and completely rebuilt.
