my setup is 898 sbc 305 already frankensteined. my pistons and valves are getting tired. So if I get a pre 85 shortblock 350- I can put new vortec heads on with the correct intake manifold. Then everything else will bolt up for a fabulous running engine?

Don't forget correct lifters, pushrods and rockers. Valve covers as well.

Absolutely. But as Rick mentioned you need self aligning rockers . 7.793 length push rods if running your flattapet cam. Be sure the last 3 numbers on the heads are 906 or 062.

Once you get it sorted let us know what carb is on there. I have some info you could use resetting the carb if it's a Weber, Edelbrock or Quadrajet.

It will be this winter, going to limp her through the summer - definitely upgrading to a four barrel carburetor. SO Any of those should do I think quadajet. Are the cheapest

I have never seen an easier to tune carb than the Edelbrock 1409 right out of the box. Same as the Weber, exactly. And uses the same parts as the Weber off the OEM drawings. Nice when you don't want to have to recreate something from scratch.
