Johnson 175 wont warm up!!!!!!

thanks for ther replies. I took the boat out in LI Sound today seaduck hunting....the engine warmed up nicely...135 and about 145..... the water temps are down...so that's probably pretty good..

Sounds like it's running right where it should, considering the lake water temps.

Trying to remember if cold salt water is a bigger issue than hot...want to flush that puppy, though, particularly given the t.stat issues. All sounds good.

Just curious Bob, how much do you trust your temp gauges & their sensor fitment?
The same could be asked of a pressure gauge reading too high?
Infra-red temp guns are really only good for comparison rather than getting an actual temp reading (google emmisivity or something like that LOL), did you find yours?
How about melt sticks? Can't say I've ever used them but they seem like a pretty foolproof way of checking.

ill find that infared at some point or buy another....for sure the gauges may go faulty, but if I can put my hand on the head and hold it there... the temps are not too hot....that's a fact...at about 140 it starts to get uncomfortable to the touch!!
