My bet is it was once oil injected but the system was disabled. If so the oil reservoir should still be there. If there's fuel in the tank you could siphon some out and see if it's mixed with oil, or you could pay a Yammie mechanic to give the motor a quick once over and kill two birds with one stone. Since you don't seem to be that familiar with it that would be my suggestion. Enjoy the new to you rig and welcome aboard!

The one Yammy 115 I worked on had oil injection. It had a tank mounted under the cover with the tank cap protruding through the cover top. The built-in tank was very small so there was also a line from a below deck tank. You hit a switch to fill up the built-in tank from the larger reservoir.

A lot of people disconnect the oil injection systems so if you intend to run the engine, us a 50-1 mix. It can't hurt and if the oil injection IS connected it will only be like breaking-in the engine..

For better info, post in the Yamaha forum.

I was told by a very senior Evinrude wrench to always mix your own and not to rely on the VRO. Of course that was a loooong time ago. Oil injection systems are more reliable now.

I don't know your motor, however, I have a 93 Suzuki DT85 which is a cousin to the Yammie I believe, or almost
I have a tank under the hood that holds prolly a quart or more. It has a pump, that, pumps in conjunction with the RPM's, which means you get less oil at slower speeds and reduce the fouling of plugs, and it has a flow switch, which, will trigger an alarm if oil is not flowing through it. Mine is very sensitive, if I let the reservoir get too low, it has another low level alarm as well....no mixing for me.

If your motor is a c115 it did not have oil injection was kind of a budget motor for yamaha.
