omc 3.0 1985 capri....valve clrearance

just got an old Bayliner Capri 1985 would like to know what the valve tolerances are and how many horsepower this boat is as well as what it is called and the other specs on itI have the model and serial number

A 1985 3.0 would be around 170HP, and the valves are hydraulic, so no adjustment should be needed unless your replacing the head or rebuilding

I'm pretty sure the 3.0 is 140HP. It better be because my 4.3L is only rated at 175HP lol

Your probably right, ruggles, in 85 they were still determining HP by calculation and not by actual determination at the flywheel

Current HP is rated at the propshaft. Old rating was at the crank.

Really you would loose 30hp between the crank and prop. My assumption was based solely looking up the 3.0 on mercruiserparts.com and they call it a 170. That being said it more then likely was just called a 170 not that it had 170hp.
