Hi
I am french and sorry for my english which is not perfect at all. I am very embarassed with my Lower Unit, I don't find any answers in french forums and hope that americans will be more informed
My engine Is a DFI Optimax 90HP of 2005 only 200hours
I explain you the issue.
I decided to change my O-ring on the bearing carrier. So I removed the Prop shaft. Bearing carrier assembly, change the O-ring (which was cut) and When I put the assembly in the Lower Unit, there was a small gap beetween le bearing carrier and the lower unit ( approximately the width of the o-ring to give you an idea). So I told myself that the bearing carrier will get full in while I would put the 2 nuts of the bearing carrier. But I didn't work this way, the bearing carrier didn't move and it cracked as you can see on the pictures.
So now I have 2 questions :
- Why the bearing carrier didn't enter fully ? why there wan this small gap ?
- No I Have to buy a new bearing carrier and the seals inner and outer ( maybe the 2 bearing which are inside the carrier too ? )? Can I change the it myself or do I have to go to a specialist ? Do I have to use a press to put the new bearings and seals inside the carrier ?
