Hello all, I am brand new to this forum and it is got a ton of great info. I am looking at buying a new to me boat. I am looking at a 1996 Lund fisherman 1650 with a 1996 Mariner 75HP ELPTO 2 stroke. The boat and motor appear to be in excellent condition for the age. I don't know much about outboards so I am just asking a few general questions.

A - is this year and model of engine reliable based on history?
B - is there anything I should ask or look for before purchasing this package?

Thanks so much in advance all, any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Find out if there are maintenance records.-------Do a compression test.-----Take it for a lake test before handing over hard earned money.

Thanks, its a little cold up north here for a lake test. it is coming from a dealer so I would think they checked it over before purchasing it on a trade it. Thanks for the tips!

That is a good solid motor.
Compression test, spark test.
Make sure the tilt n trim works.

The dealer should be able to put it in a test tank and start it for you.

Don't know where you are, but you may be able to ink a deal with solid money down and free winter storage.
Then pay the rest in spring when you pick it up, with a 30 day warranty ??

Post #1 did not include anything about buying from a dealer.---If it is a reputable dealer then you will get some kind of warranty with it I would hope.

Thanks for all your replies. I am going to try and swing a 1 season warranty on the boat and motor. Anyone own or rode in this model of Lund? I know this isn't a boat forum but im just wondering how it rides in rough water

thanks again, cheers

Kind of a subjective question.
Rough to you, may be pretty smooth to me. Depends on what you are used to, and how fast you run.
Or how slow you are willing to run in rough water.
And the further toward the bow you are sitting, the rougher it is.
