There's a bunch of YouTube videos. Each has some parts that make it easier to see and understand.

You'll need to either buy or make an exhaust bellows expansion tool to get the back end over the flange. You need the Mercruiser#6 manual if I am right that you have a Alpha 1 sterndrive.

There is a video on youtube somewhere that shows how to replace the Exhaust Bellows using a couple of Paint Stir Sticks.
You strectch the Bellows out and clamp the sticks to it to hold it.
Then put the bellows on the Transom Side and clamp it.
The lower the foot down into the other end of the bellows and clamp it.
Then just remove the sticks and clamps that were hold ing them.

I did mine like this a year ago and it worked. Didn't need a manual or any special tools.

That would work fine. Never even thought of pre-rigging the outdrive end that way. Cool stuff.

The exhaust bellows are the least of your worries as the boat would run just fine with them completely gone. With that said..... This is a good indication that ALL of the bellows need to be replaced due to age, wear and tear. If the U-joint bellows or lower shift cable bellows start leaking, it will most likely cause further damage and run up the cost of the repair bill.

Ayuh,..... Agreed,.... If yer changin' one bellows, do ALL the rubber parts at the same time,.....

Throw in a new lower shift cable too,....

I was thinking the same thing when I first started reading this thread.

My shift bellows lasted 17 years, the shift bellows cracked a few months later. My point? You've gotten good advice, if one has deteriorated the others are not far behind. Be smart and proactive and replace all 3 and the shift cable too.

thanks for the advice, I would replace all the rubber because I like to get it done, today I took out the carburetor to send it out to complete rebuild and I took out the fuel pump I want to install a new one.
