I am in the middle of changing out my 'Discontinued' Merc fuel pump (part# 861156A-1) with this Airtex E11004.
Was thrilled with the <$100 pump but I'm curious why the back end
(where the plug is) the housing isnt threaded?? is it some sort of a compression fitting?
I called Airtex and they do have a similar pump (E11003) with a threading housing but it only pushes 9-10 psi for a carborated system and not the fuel injected system on my 2003 MercCruiser 5.0.
has anyone had any experience with this crossover part and the non-threaded fitting?

I've attached a pic of the new pump

Any insight would be appreciated
Thx,
~Rick

:welcome: to iboats Rick

The fuel pump was discontinued because they no longer make the pump. Merc has decided to replace the entire cooler assembly instead of just the pump. You would replace all with P/N 86556 if you have serial number 0M300000 and higher. Bulletin is linked below http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bulletins/001/04//2004/EN_05.PDF

Thanks GA_Boater, I did view that post, it mentioned the no thread on the pump but that was for an older application (no fuel ingection) so he must have re-ordered the E11003 part for a solution.

Also thanks to Captain ALLDodge for the reply, but the new configuration cooler assembly lists for over $1000 and I need two!
the pump itself is exactly the same. I was just looking for a work around or for someone who solved this problem with a cheaper solution.
thx anyway

Don't know if you can get the fitting to change from new to old style. You may be able to fabricate something but I wouldn't do it. Don't know you personally but all the same don't want to be reading about you either. Hope you can find some old stock
