how to remove plug in block

hi guys I have a question I am swapping engines I had to swap oil pans there is a plug I need to remove in the block for the dipstick tube I am trying to come from behind it using a screwdriver hitting it with a hammer so far no luck I am not really wailing on it is there another way before I proceed, and one more thing the oil pan gasket came out clean I read I can reuse it is this true

remove the pan and using a suitable drift, hammer it out from the pan side. usually a solid steel plug tapped in from the engine side so inside out is the way to go.
