Re: Year of Motor

Welcome to iboats.

She is a '79

Use premixed fuel to troubleshoot the fuel delivery system. No lubrication in starting fluid. 50:1 is the correct mix.

Re: Year of Motor

Thanks again Chris followed that list of checks ..cleaned the carb running like shes brand new not bad for $240..

One more question my son is going to running it and it has a push button kill switch and not a safety lanyard...I bought a universal safety switch yester day and it has 4 terminals on the bottom 2 say coil and 2 say magneto ..Can any one tell me which 2 to hook the wires to or does it matter?

Thanks again this forum is awesome..

Re: Year of Motor

Are you going to mount the switch on the outboard or on the boat?

If on the motor, you simply disconnect the wires from the push-button stop switch and attach the wires directly to the kill switch. THis will mean that your push button stop is inoperative, but you can always just kill the engine with the lanyard. Or you could splice into them and find a new location to mount your new switch, which would be ideal if you want to mount the switch on the boat. Mounting it on the boat would be ideal if you would use different motors on it.
