fuel guage problem - the more throttle the higher the fuel guage reads

i hope someone can help
when i increase throttle my fuel guage reads higher and higher also my voltmeter goes up to 16v at WOT? my temp guage still doesnt read anything. prior to this my fuel guage wasnt working at all, i think the guages are wired in series and i found a loose black grounding wire from the fuel guage and wired this to the negative bus, i thought then the fule guage was working it read a quarter tank. put the boat in the water yesterday and as i say the faster i go the higher the reading on the guage??

If your battery voltage is going to 16 volts, you need to have your regulator checked or replaced. 16 volts will cook your battery if your voltmeter is reading correctly.

Hi The engine is a 1999 Mercury 90hp 2 stroke oil injected, the voltmeter reading also rises with increased throttle.
