I can't get any fuel from my built in fuel tank 20 gal plastic . I tried another portable tank and my outboard mercury 75 hp. ran great? I tried putting another fuel line on to the built in tank and no fuel and no pressure in the fuel line.I have about 9 gallons in the tank now and the boat is sitting level. I took out the pick up tube and ran water thur it and water ran thur fine? The screen is not clogged. I unscrewed the gas cap to see if it was the vent but nothing? Any help would be great . Thanks Chris

Re: Fuel Tank problems

Is the anti-siphon valve/ball stuck?

Re: Fuel Tank problems

Did the new fuel line you tried include a new primer bulb?

Yes the primer ball was new and the arrow on the new fuel line was pointing toward the engine.

There is a vent somewhere, and it's probably clogged. Find it and check and clean as necessary. Not sure if this would work to determine if it's a clogged vent, but have you tried to run it with the fuel cap off? If it runs with the cap off, then it's definitely the vent.

Re: Fuel Tank problems

If it's a venting issue a motor will usually start ok (if it's been sitting a while) then die as the vacuum builds in the tank leading to fuel starvation as the fuel pump has to work to overcome the vacuum. (sorry for the run-on sentence.)

As mentioned above, if it works with the fuel cap off it would be a venting problem. Another hint on venting problems is a whoosh of air into the tank when you remove the cap. That indicates a vacuum has built in the tank as fuel is pumped out but not replaced by air.
