Can anyone tell me what the volt/ohm reading should be on a good coil for these motors?
We have one good coil that reads 10.91m.
We bought a brand new one and it reads 9.??m
What ever bank we put this good coil on is what we get fire from.
Bought a new one and it fails.
We can not seem to be able to get the right one.

9 to 11 ohms. Did you check the ballast resistors? Each coil had its own.

No I have not tested the resisters..but when I move the good coil over to the other side, everything works fine on that side.

Ok , then the resistors are probably good. What about the primary side of the coil resistance, should be less than 1 ohm.

Just out of curiosity, How do you test the ballast resistors and what are the specs?

Thanks

Test the resistor(s) with no wires attached. Should be between 1 and 4 ohms, depending on the part #.

Re: 1966 95hp Thunderbolt Merc

Ok, Ill have to test those either fri or sat.
I tested the Coils and the new one was faulty, Secondary was 0ohms
Primary was 9.42ohms.
Also I noticed after looking at the schematics the wiring was all jacked up, the coils had been jumped on the possitive poles and the balist resisters had 2 jumpers instead of just one.
I think when we get a good coil the thing will run.
I be able to tell fri or sat also.
Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated!
