Put the boat in the water, starts great, idles great. Push throttle forward and it ran for a few hundred yards fine and then bogged down. Pumped the bulb and it takes off again. Could it be a fuel tank vent issue or bulb issue?

Hi K,
I'm not familiar with your motor in particular but here are a few possibilities.
It could be a vent issue. Does it happen with the tank cap loose ?
Is the bulb "soft" when you pump it ? If it is a suction feed system, air leaks at the connections will result in air in the fuel lines. Most connectors have an "O" Ring that can deteriorate and cause these symptoms.

could be the pump as well but check the vent on your tank and also the connections for your fuel lines.

Re: Johnson 60 HP model J60ELESM

I spoke with a local mech and he had me remove and replace the VRO pump with an external 12 volt low pressure fuel pump and the boat ran better. Then I took it out again and it bogged again. I took the carbs off and discovered rubber from the fuel lines in all of my carbs and the bottom carb was FULL of varnish and the needle was seized and had to be removed with a pair of needle nose. I cleaned and reassembled and now I am replacing all the intenal fuel lines and the fuel tank. Thanks for the replies. I may be back asking more if this doesn't work.

first you need to find another Mechanic. he just had you build a bomb, with that 12 volt pump. replace your VRO pump with the 3 line pluse premix pump 0385784 FUEL PUMP ASSY.

ever heard of ethanol read this. replace all fuel lines http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=330129

Why is it a bomb? I am not disagreeing, just concerned now that you say that. I have seen other post on here about doing this same thing. The VRO that I removed had the oil side disabled and I just premix.
