Hi all, my son is going to look at a 2003 175HP Johnson tomorrow, hes going to do a compression test, could you tell me what kind of numbers he should be looking for? One more quick question for me, what do you guys think of a early 90's 140hp Johnson, were they any good?
Thanks
Joe

Re: Two Quick ??

If it runs good, 175 hp is 175 hp. On a smaller boat, it will haul.

I believe the 2003 175 was a FICHT engine, those engines put OMC into bankruptcy, the parts are outa this world, average guy cant work on them.As for the 140 ,its a great engine
You can go to the Bombardier website(new owners of OMC)they list all the outboards and parts back to early 70's.Look at the parts for the 175,particularly the fuel components. There was also a cast problem on some blocks back then,I AM NOT SURE IF THAT ENGINE WAS ONE OF THEM
