Any suggestions for a boat stereo that can play off my iphone itunes and still charge at the same time like my Bose Docking station but cheaper?

I'm certainly not taking the Bose on the boat.;)

Incoop it looks like a good receiver and it has a USB port but I wonder if just plugging my iphone into the USB if that will also charge it.

Listening to music on it takes a lot of battery.

looks similar one I just installed (same brand different model) - has the cord on it to control the ipod thru the head unit, but won't charge it.

I'm looking for the same thing, a cheap headunit that's basic AM/FM (don't even need CD) but with a dock connector to play iDevices. The one linked to above has a USB port for charging devices only. I guess when the time comes, I'll check out crutchfield.

Yes ma'am. It will charge from the USB port. You'll have to use an audio cable for the tunes though. You just plug it into the AUX input like on other head units.

Re: Boat Stereo for iphone

I mentioned their excellent customer service. Here's how I know. I went through three receivers in a summer because I wasn't getting sound on the left side. I could connect FR and RR then run the balance all the way over and get sound from both sides that way, so I assumed the left side of the amp was bad. I had several conversations with a very nice gentleman at Dual about it. He was stumped because he had never heard of this problem but agreed that seemed to be the case and immediately sent me another HU. Guess what? Same problem, so they sent me another one. Same problem again, but I sold the boat and didn't think about it any longer. I bought another boat last fall, installed a Clarion unit and had the same issue. Finally some of my Iboats brethren suggested it could be the XM receiver I was using. Of course they were correct, which means there was never anything wrong with the head units Dual kept graciously sending me. Now I almost feel bound by karma to plug them whenever possible. :)

Alpine makes head units with a usb port on it. I think you could get on for about $150.00.

Thanks for all the input. :)

You'd think there would be more on the market by now for iphone capability/interface with all the iphones out there. Maybe people don't use their iphone as much as I do for music.

Well the iphone and ipods all have the same interface. So even if fewer people use their phones for music, everyone uses their ipods for music. But look how long it took for car makers to start putting iPod connections in their vehicles. Another 10 years or so and boats will have them too :D

There are tons of these plus some that are marine specific. Here is one.

It has a nice feature that has a timeout to save your battery in case you leave it on.

You can also add a remote control that mounts in the side of your boat.

Any stereo that offers iPod control via built in USB should charge the iPhone or any other iPhone. :) When you connect using your iPhone USB cable, the message "Device not made to work with iPhone do you want to turn on airplane mode to reduce interference" pops up. Press "NO," or ignore the message. Keep on rockin' and chargin'

So what is the benefit of getting a stereo that is "meant" for marine use, vs one thats just a regular in-car stereo?

Only if its exposed to some weather. May have conformal coating on some of the circuitry and have extra features like being able to have some remote controls.

Here is another inexpensive one that would work well and it is not marine.

I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman at a Clarion authorized repair shop a month or so ago. He told me that virtually all head units (including non-marine ones) now come with the conformal coating. Just food for thought to add fuel to the consuming fires of confusion.

Matches the white fiberglass!

That is the most important thing to consider as far as the boss is concerned. She made me send one back because it was the wrong color LOL!
