454 to 8.1 good swap?

Hi this is my first post and would like to ask a question. Just became proud owner of 1976 26' Livesay Flybridge. Custom boat out of San Diego. Like Skip Jack. Boat is on its 2nd 454 and was upgrade to freshwater cooling. Engine is said to be rebuilt? Having to do some deck work I am thinking of upgrading to a 8.1 496 out of 2002 Gmc. Most things Im told should bolt on. Could I get some input on this please. Like to do things right the first time and only once. Thanks

Since the engine in the boat is relatively fresh, I wouldn't worry about it.

And you'll want a fresh 8.1, not some clapped out truck engine.

Stay with the 454. The generation 3 8.1L will take more to get operating than you think.
