Hi everybody. Does someone know if the 0777231 Diagnostic Software PC Version, will be able to work with my Evinrude E-TEC (E115DSLSCR) year 2008?

I think the latest version is v 4.4 ... I have 4.2 which I think covers thru and including model yr 2009.

It's copyrighted material. You can purchase it from any BRP Evinrude dealer.

BRP gets a bunch for the cable. If you're handy with a soldering pencil, I can point you to a source for the pieces to make your own (The Deutsch connector is strictly a mail order item).

I would buy a serial cable (straight thru, not null modem) with the right gender DB9 connector for your computer, cut off the end to connect to the Deutsch connector and solder the wires from the cut end to the Deutsch connector.

Cut off one end, and attach a Deutsch connector DT04-3P available for under $12

No clue on the sw price (I got it when I bought my motors)but I think it's pricey.

The cable from BRP is very expensive. There are aftermarket companies that sell them also...but they are still $75-80.

I havn't bought one, but I have seen cables pretty cheap on e-bay. ($25 or so)

I just came from my buddy's place who is a johnson evinrude dealer, latest BRP software is 4.5...he had some serial port issues

The problem is typically, current laptops don't have a real serial port and you need to use a USB to serial converter. All of them don't work or work well.

The problem is typically, current laptops don't have a real serial port and you need to use a USB to serial converter. All of them don't work or work well.

There is some anecdotal evidence that the USB-to-Serial converters using the FTDI chip are the most compatible with the Evinrude Diagnostic Software.

I use a Keyspan HS-19A, but I am using an Apple MacBook Pro laptop and run Windows as an emulation. I have not noticed any problems.
