I bought a used 1995 Johnson 9.9. Cannot get the upper screw out. The head of the screw is messed up. Is there a problem if i drill it and use an easy out ?

not the best idea, but sometimes the only one. put grease on the bit, so it collects the shavings.

First try a hand impact driver and a hammer. If that fails, due to the stripped screw head, use a small cold chistle and a hammer to turn the screw CCW. Let the chistle dig into the metal of the fill plug, and rap it firmly.

If that fails, it is time for the easy out, however, you will likely succeed with one of the other ways, IMHO.

God bless those little impact screw drivers and a hammer. They solve many a problem on outboards and motorcycles!!

Pretty good chance the EZout will break, then you've got a worse situation. Impact driver.
