I have purchased an 86 Thunder craft Malibu. Having a problem with the tilt and trim. This boat has sat for about 8 years or more. when I hit the trim all I get its clicking. Is there a way to take these apart and clean them up?

Clean your connections to the batt, soleniods and pump motor. After that if it's clicking still take a test light to the hot wire going to the motor and hit the button if it doesn't light up it may be a solenoid if it does it might be a stuck pump motor. Test the switch/curcuits.

Re: Inboard tilt and trim motor

After you test the relays;

To test the motor pos batt to Blue to raise; pos batt to green to lower. Make sure all connections are clean and snug Including the Ground circuit.

Lightly tap top of motor housing if it responds your motor has issues with rust/corrosion on the inside, replace.

The relays are not serviceable, must be replaced, If you have a clue what you are doing you could pull the motor off and apart to maybe clean the brushes and stuff, I have done this several times, but the bottom line is they don't last for too much longer if they needed this to begin with. Temporary fix at best.
