another carb question

if there is no adjustment on a 1977 55 hp johnson why is there an adjustment screw sticking out the front of the bottom carb ?

If you are referring to the bottom front of the carb bowl, that is a drain plug, also accsess to the high speed orifice.

there is a bolt center top, and center bottom. neither are adjustments. they are covers of the low and high speed jets. both should be tight, with a gasket on them.
