Hi I'm looking at buying the humminbird 385ci or the lowrance m68c but I cannot confirm that I can load a map of canada in the unit for the gps portion. I have a very small limited amount of space so these units would be perfect. Unless someone knows a better unit. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,

Hi Guys I have a Humminbird 587 ci and I use the Navionics Premium hotmap 09,It is great ,on the Navionics web site it tells you the High detail lakes that are on the chip,The built in unimap on the unit is not that great. If you are on one of the High detail Lakes it is awesome
Hope this helps

give Joslin a call at Anglin Outfitters in Woodstock... he knows his maps and areas better then anyone i know.... his prices are even less then your big box retailer.... and he will tell you what maps are in high def for what lakes etc...in Canada as far as i know the break ups are real crazy as in where the region and maps start.... this guy knows best and i wouldn't trust anyone else... and he is up front and sez it like it is....

I have the 3 series Humminbird (383c) with GPS. It has no way to load additional maps but does show the lake I'm on (just outside Ottawa, Canada)

It provides an outline of the lake/shoreline, but no markings/depths details included out of the box. I just took a peek at the 385ci and I don't think it provides much more. They refer to their UniMap but it doesn't look any different to me than what's in my 383c.

I don't think it'll cover what you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, spoke to soon.... according to Bailey's link, the 385ci is supported for maps from navionics..

Like Andrew I use Navionics in my 7 series Humminbird. Very happy with the detail, and accurate.

Don't see the 385 as compatible on the Navionics website.

Had a look at the link and I found the 385ci under the gold section. I think I'm leaning toward the humminbird because it seems difficult to find much info about the lowrance model. Well that and I found a great deal on the humminbird unit. Anyhow it does come with the micro SD slot for mapping capability, I did check for that. Is the transducer able to be epoxied to the hull as a thru hull setup? I know it's suppose to reduce the depth the transducer goes but it would be much much more convienient. Any thoughts on any installation would be much appreciated. And thanks for the replies so far.

Hi There Flash800
Pretty sure you need to get a through hull Transducer that gets epoxyed to the inside of your hull,The Humminbird website should confirm
Good luck

yeah, you can send the regular transducer back to Humminbird in exchange for the thru hull design. I've seen them done with the regular ones thru hull, but they don't work well at all. Also, it must be a single layer hull to support the thru hull setup.

it's going on a seadoo........we do alot of touring and want to see what's around us. I'm fairly certain that it is a single layer hull. It would be nice to have it inside but not necessary.
