Well just purchased my first real boat this past weekend. I have had wave runners etc in the past. But woke up to the wife looking at boats saturday morning and had to seize the opportunity.

Ended up buying a 2004 Four Winns Horizon 230 with a 5.7l/GI volvo DP. The boat looks like new and has 230 hours on it. It has only had one previous owner. Who just traded it at the dealer he purchased it from to upgrade to a larger boat. Hope it is as good a deal as it seemed I paid 19,999 for it with the trailer .

Is that not a good thing? To me it seems like a great deal and I wonder if it is too good to be true?

The dealer has offered me warranty on the entire engine and outdrive for the entire 2010 season. They will make any repair necessary on it. He assures me that this boat has zero problems.

I am having a guy come up and go over it this weekend before delivery.

Sounds like a fair price to me. And with the dealer covering it for a season, that shows they stand behind it. Question though, how long did you finance it? That will be the deciding factor on how good of a deal it was. There are too many people out there that finance a boat for 10yrs and don't realize how much they end up really paying for it.

Very nice boat welcome aboard, In Australia you would pay around $30,000.00 for a boat like that

Re: First Boat !

Congratulations!!
I am looking to join the group of boat owners soon. I am looking at a 1987 Skeeter 175 Starfire bass boat. It needs some work but I think I can get it for $500 dollars. As a matter of fact it has a 150 Mercury on the back and I think it is in good shape. It hasn't been ran since 2002 or at least that is the last year it was registered. Does anyone out there have an idea if this would be a good project for me to restore and make my own? These same boats are being sold for $3000 to $5000 dollars on the net. Let me know what you all think!

Your price seems fair to me, too. The fact that the dealer is willing to stand behind it for an entire season is huge. That in itself would give me a good feeling that the boat's probably in terrific shape. Having a guy of your own go over it too really cements the deal.

Best of luck with it. Enjoy!
