Install temp gauge

I have installed a temp gauge on a 1989 120hp Johnson. Where the sensor screws in to the head seems to have some space between the end of the sensor and the head itself. This is a OMC sensor. Should I put anything in the hole to help conduct the temp from the head to the sensor? Thanks

There is a product used for heat transfer, it is grease like substance called insulgrease, I highly recommend using it. Neversieze is a decent substitute, it wont harden over time or liquify under heat.

You want to be careful in using any product. The threaded portion should have no sealer or lubricant of any kind to gaurantee a good electrical ground. The thermal portion needs to have a solid contact with the metal below it, and a thermal compound is recommended.
