Old faithful 4hp mercury

I have been having trouble finding the correct year for my mercury outboard. It's a older model 4 HP but runs great. I have got to get a new pull start for it and was wanting to make sure i got the right year. Serial # 3159428. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Also if you have any idea how much this part costs that would be great too. Thanks. GREAT FORUM. Lots of info for rookies like myself.

Your 4hp most likely has a red stripe running 'round the motor cover; takes a Champion L-78V plug, has a points gap of .020" and was manufactured in 1971.
