Thankfully, I got out of the corporate world about 10 years ago. The wife is still a member.......

"Go the extra mile"

If you went an extra mile.. wouldn't you be "off by a mile"?

Until you've had someone tell you they will "ping you" you have no idea how bad corporate speak has become.

I used to work for a internet sports company and was in a meeting one day where I began talking about an issue with a high availability server. The server guy then responded "Let's take it offline". I began laughing out loud at the absurdity of the statement, only to find out he meant "We'll talk about it after the meeting".

When did making sense when you spoke become optional?

Using the word "utilized" instead of the word "used". What hacks me off the most is politicians who don't reply to simple questions with simple answers. Instead, you are first subjected to a speech and then lied to.

A popular one with management in the company I work for, "Step up to the plate!" As in, you need to go above and beyond. I want to hit somebody when I hear that. YOU step up to the &#@*$!$ plate!

In my line of work this means your going to work for free and maybe stay a little longer at the end of the day too.

I step up to the plate every day and the only thing i get are spit balls.

I hear ya on this one. I'm sad to see how rap and ebonics lingo is infecting our children speech. The TV and commercials glorify bad english to the point that kids go around trying to emulate and talk like Snoop Dog and wigger wanna bees like Eminem.

Or when people pronounce a picture (like a photo) as pitcher.
Or saying I have to go to the groshery store instead of grocery.

Or my having to press #1 for English.

Whatever happened to speaking the "Kings English" . . . Old Chap :D

There is a "snowballs chance in hell" :;) of getting our langauge back.

C'mon Jay, cut them some slack.
I have no doubt that they would use that "paradigm shift" to "leverage synergies" so that all "stakeholders" could benefit "moving forward".
That has to be a good thing, right?

...while they're grabbing the "low hanging fruit".

I think you meant "without further adieu" . . .

Not trying to be picky, but everyone knows "ado" . . . is a small deer :D :) :D

I think he had it right, it's 'ado', as in Much Ado About Nothing. The other adieu is French for 'farewell'.

What I'm sick of isn't so much a cliche it's that question-speak thing, where people inflect every....sentence? as a ...question? like I'm doing here? Linguists call it a high rising terminal, I call it annoying.

I forgot one.. "you know"

If I already know, and you know I already know, why are you A: telling me I know and B: telling me it again!

Well Expedia guess this says something to my respect to your opinion. I went back and edited my post (I was thinking, "crap wonder if I've written that before?"...doubt it, because I can't stand it right?).....now, after a little Googleing....I'm going to go back and edit again, it is "ado".

Thanks Keywest.
