I'm in the middle of my water pump job and I'm having difficulties keeping the impeller drive cam in place while sliding the housing assembly over the drive shaft. The manual instructions say to apply grease to the drive shaft to hold the drive cam in place. Every time I slide the housing down the shaft the cam moves. Am I doing something wrong?

put the impeller on also, then spray with WD 40 impeller and inside housing. slide housing down, putting pressure on top of the housing, turn the drive shaft clockwise, the housing will then slip over the impeller.

when reinstalling lower unit, remove spark plugs, so you can turn flywheel. this will allow you to get the splines in line easier.

Thanks tashasdaddy, I was thinking about that but the manual instructs to install impeller into housing first then slid housing down shaft. I will install by your method. Thanks again.
